Do not trust your monochrome instincts. A black tie can look like a Malcolm C costume, and the red-on-white... Pee Wee. Try a nice print, or a plaid tie — paisley, even. They're more casual options, which means they're less self-conscious.
A few words on pairing: a pop of color in the shirt, a sweater vest on top, and you're ready for the office. Boom.
Once everybody's used to it, you can start taking the whole bow-tie thing in more formal directions. Try the print tie with your plaid suit. Then move on to the larger Tom Ford model in black and gray, the Tom Ford model being a nod to the twenties look anyway, only modified (very nicely) for the modern man.
Match your swagger with integrity, and you'll have a leg up on our friends from the Boardwalk, who've got some catching up to do in that department by next week.

Recently, I've become a sucker for shows set in the earlier 20th century and Boardwalk Empire's flashy commercials certainly caught my attention. Unfortunately, being a poor college graduate, I don't have the luxury of HBO. Looks like I will have to wait until it comes out on DVD or Netflix to check it out.
That's all for now aficionados,
Nick
